Multiuse Path
In a city with 200 miles of unpaved trails and 65 miles of bike paths, there is a popular hiking trail which spans 12 miles called the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt. The divided path runs parallel to Hayden Road, a major divided four-lane thoroughfare. One may hike, bike, or leisurely meander along this paved path. Innovative in concept, the area functions as a flood basin during inclement weather.
However, Scottsdale’s usually—ideal weather (average median temperature is 70.3 °.) beckons one to experience the outdoors throughout most of the year. Whether your goal is personal fitness or recreation and relaxation, this trial is well-suited. As you travel this path, you will see people of all ages engaged in varied activities. If you start at McKellips Lake Park at the most southern point of the trail, you may see people either fishing, picnicking, walking, jogging, or playing disc golf.
The path then wanders around a designated skateboard area and on toward a second lake. Paddleboats may be rented here. As the path continues, you will encounter golf courses along the way. There are shady areas, drinking fountains, and distance markers to enhance the experience.
Take a short walk west at Osborn Road and visit the 33 fine art sculptures around Civic Center. Here you may also find quiet areas to sit and let your imagination soar or enjoy the restful calm of watching Scottsdale’s swans.
Return to the trail and you will pass through or by-pass (your choice) Chaparral Park. Here you will encounter fishermen as they peacefully await their catch. This area also houses baseball fields and offers more golfing opportunities. The path continues this way with many inviting areas to sit and ponder in quiet contemplation or participate in activities to stay physically fit on well-lit pathways.
