In Search Of…
In our never-ending quest for culture we look for opportunities in the arts, nature, sports, architecture, etc. Scottsdale offers many venues to help us in our search to lift the human spirit. Hop on one of the city’s free trolleys and experience Old Town, the arts and antiques district on Main Street, the arts district on Marshall Way, the Fifth Avenue shopping area and Scottsdale Fashion Square.
There are over 125 art galleries and museums to visit. Plan to participate in the Scottsdale ArtWalk on Thursday evenings. Wind in and out of the galleries and enjoy the atmosphere. You will encounter artists’ exhibits as well as live entertainment to keep your interest. If your tastes run more to the spectator sport, visit either the Scottsdale Center for the Arts www.scottsdalearts.org, or the Kerr Cultural Center. Here you will experience live performances to suit most every taste.
Bring your baseball mitt and it is possible to become part of the baseball scene at the Scottsdale Stadium during the Giants’ spring training or visit the soon to be completed Talking Sticks complex where the Arizona Diamondbacks train. Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy outdoor concerts and performances at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park on summer Sundays. This lovely park also features a train, which has been known to entertain children from six to sixty. If your equestrian days are not over, visit West World, which showcases the annual Arabian horse show.
While you are in north Scottsdale, you may also wish to visit the winter home of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Here you may take a fascinating tour of the house as well as visit the existing architectural school. Continue your quest for beauty by visiting the Cosanti Foundation. The showroom of the famed bronze and ceramic wind chimes of architect Paolo Solari will make you wish for strong breezes or gentle winds.
But then the search will always continue... as it should.
